Arizona’s Historic Copper Mining Town
Founded in 1876, Jerome stands between Prescott and Flagstaff. While visiting my brother in Flagstaff, we visited the town who was Arizona’s fourth largest city in the 1920’s with a population around 15,000. The primary mine closed in 1953 after an incredible demonstration of output supplying copper for World War II. Today, the town is much like an open air museum. The facades and even many of the interiors of the century old structures remain. In others, shops, restaurants, and many services taking advantage of such a unique scene set by a town allowed to stand as a living archive.
